Your Stories: Rachel and Kristian
Not so long ago…
Jemima was contacted by the very lovely Rachel and Kristian with a very special purpose in mind. They had recently got engaged (more about that further down the page) and needed a dream ring designed and made. Hargreaves Stockholm felt very lucky to be involved in the special moment and had the chance to ask a few questions about the couple, their engagement and their custom ring;
Tell us about yourselves, where are you from, how did you meet, how long have you been together?
We met four years ago via the dating app 'Happn'. Kristian was visiting the National History Museum in London and that day Rachel happened to be working at the London Science museum. We crossed paths and matched which lead to a stream of message exchanges, a meet up in a pub, and a first kiss in Covent Garden.
Only in a place like London could a boy from Norway meet a girl from New Zealand. We bonded straight away over our shared love for travelling, the arts, and the outdoors.
You designed an engagement ring with Hargreaves Stockholm recently, we would love to hear what the proposal was like!
The day before Rachel’s 30th birthday Kristian proposed.
We were in the Italy Alps skiing. It was a crisp blue bird day with just the right amount of powder. After an amazing lunch of ravioli and wine we decided we should ski across the ridge top and traverse to some untouched snow. Rachel bounced down the slopes and when she arrived at the ideal stop she took a moment to soak in the mountain views. When Kristian eventually arrived, he clicked off his skis and announced “I’ve got something to ask you Rachel”. He got down on one knee and there on the top of the mountain asked Rachel “will you marry me?”
“Of course!” Rachel replied completely overwhelmed with happiness.
It was such a special moment, just the two of us. Although it sounds cliché, it really was perfect. We ended up skiing down the powder and straight into a lodge for a celebratory spritz!
How did you decide what kind of ring you wanted?
Rachel had a very clear idea of what she wanted. A classic emerald cut diamond surrounded by a halo of diamonds. She was inspired by Grace Kelly’s engagement ring and the ring Daisy Buchanan wears in the Baz Luhrmann film, The Great Gatsby.
Hargreaves Stockholm were able to bring to life my vision, they created the ring I had always dreamt of. I adore wearing it.
What made you choose Hargreaves Stockholm and how have you found the experience?
We live in Stockholm and wanted to work with a Stockholm based jeweler. The fact that Jemima is British gave it all the more a special touch, considering how we meet in London.
When we learnt about Jemima’s impressive resumé the decision became a no brainer, who else can say their ring maker has designed jewelry from Royalty to top Hollywood stars. Hargreaves were incredibly professional. Jemima was able to meet Rachel for several lunch dates near Rachel’s office which made the design process really easy and fun.
Hargreaves Stockholm had such attention to detail and the ring is stunning. Rachel is complimented on it all the time and loves wearing it. It is so special to say I designed my dream engagement ring, I am so proud of it and would recommend Hargreaves Stockholm to everyone.
